“Pushing back the dark”
Why do good people in challenging environments try, against all odds, to make a positive difference?
They try to make things better even when their boss discourages it.
They go outside of their way (and their role) to support colleagues.
They dare to lead grassroots movements in their company.
They keep looking for ways to do the right thing, even when HR or management says “No.”
They care.
Why?
Rick Evans in Michigan described his own personal motivation as “pushing back the dark.” I liked that very much.
We may not be able to influence elections or wars or most management decisions. But we *can* try to make a difference within our sphere of influence. And through our actions and relationship-building, we can continue to expand that sphere of influence.
Since our call, Rick and I have at least a few possible collaborations to “push back the dark.” I’m not sure where they will lead, but all change starts with an attempt.
Do what you can with what you have. Together we can make the world a brighter place.
